Thanksgiving is nearly upon us! A time for friends and family, near and far. The start of a season of happiness and warmth; and who could forget the food? Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and all the fixings! A time to count your blessings and appreciate those around you.
Sadly, the holidays have a different meaning for the more than 2,600 homeless people of New Hampshire. The holidays are a reminder of struggle, perhaps loneliness, and definitely hunger. Luckily, there are organizations like the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter that help to bridge the gap between those with a generous nature and those in need.
For the fifth year, Melanson Heath & Company (MHCo) has decorated their offices with colorful flyers depicting the urgent needs of those around us. The flyer reminded us that even a little goes a long way for those without. “Please don’t think it’s not enough to bother donating! IT IS ENOUGH!!”
And sure enough, throughout the Fall season, a vacant Nashua office began to fill with the donations from MHCo employees. Supplies like canned goods, rice, stuffing and pasta, to items such as diapers and toothbrushes, were donated by eager-to-give staff members.
On Friday, November 22, 2013 Erica Lussier and Nicole Hogan, MHCo accounting staff and coordinators of the event, delivered the donations to the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter.
And we’re not stopping at Thanksgiving. With Christmas right around the corner, our firm will continue to give back to the community. The Nashua office will be donating to the New Hampshire Society of Certified Public Accountants “Stuff a Bus Toy Drive.” The Manchester office of MHCo will continue the Our Kids’ Tower of Toys donations.
MHCo would like to thank all staff that contributed to making the holidays easier for those in need. We wish you and your family a happy holiday season.
The Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter (NSKS) has been in existence for 32 years. Volunteers provide those in need with emergency shelter, temporary housing, an employment/education program and nourishment. Some months, they serve over 5,000 meals.
